Willows Campsite, Yanga National Park

Balranald

The Willows Campground and Picnic Area is a serene camping destination nestled within the Yanga State Conservation Area, approximately 23 km east of Balranald, New South Wales. Set amidst tranquil woodlands and near the Murrumbidgee River floodplains, it offers a peaceful retreat for nature enthusiasts seeking to immerse themselves in the Australian outback.​

Camping Facilities

The campground accommodates tents, camper trailers, caravans, and motorhomes, providing:​

  • 11 unpowered campsites with picnic tables and wood barbecues (bring your own firewood).​
  • Non-flush toilets for basic amenities.​
  • Fireplaces available for use between April and September, outside the fire danger period.​

Please note that there is no drinking water on-site; visitors should bring their own supplies. While camping is free, a $6 booking fee applies. ​

Nature & Activities

The Willows is a haven for birdwatchers, with the surrounding wetlands attracting a diverse array of bird species. Visitors can also enjoy:​

Bushwalking through the park's scenic trails.​ Exploring the historic Wilga Woolshed, offering insights into the area's pastoral heritage.​

Fishing in the nearby Murrumbidgee River, known for its abundance of native fish.​

The peaceful environment is ideal for relaxation and reconnecting with nature. ​

Getting There

From Balranald, travel east along the Sturt Highway for 23 km. Turn right at the blue tent sign, continue for 800 meters, then turn left at The Willows campground sign. The campground is approximately 1.5 km along this unsealed road. Access is suitable for 2WD vehicles in dry weather conditions. ​
