Carcoar Dam

Carcoar Dam is a picturesque destination nestled in the Central West region of New South Wales, approximately 6 km east of the historic village of Carcoar and about 55 km southwest of Bathurst. Constructed between 1969 and 1970, this dam features a unique double parabolic arch concrete wall, standing 52 meters high and stretching 187 meters in length. Its primary purpose is to supply water for irrigation, stock, and domestic use in the Belubula Valley, supporting agriculture such as lucerne, cereals, and livestock farming. ​

Recreation & Activities

Carcoar Dam offers a variety of recreational activities suitable for all ages:​

Water Sports: Enjoy swimming, power boating, sailing, sailboarding, and water skiing on the expansive lake. ​

Fishing: The dam is stocked with species like golden perch, Murray cod, and trout, making it a popular spot for anglers. ​

Camping & Facilities

The Carcoar Dam camping area is a free, year-round site offering:​

  • Campsites: Grassy and shaded areas suitable for tents, caravans, and motorhomes, with some spots offering scenic lake views.
  • Amenities: Facilities include toilets, cold showers, picnic tables, and barbecues. ​
  • Pet-Friendly: Dogs are permitted but must be kept under control at all times. ​
  • Accessibility: The site is accessible via 2WD vehicles and is suitable for big rigs.

Carcoar Dam is located on Carcoar Dam Road, approximately 1 km from the Mid-Western Highway. It's about a 3.5-hour drive from Sydney and 3 hours from Canberra, making it an accessible getaway for city dwellers.
