Winton Wetlands

Winton North

Camping at Winton Wetlands offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in one of Australia's most significant ecological restoration projects. Located in northeast Victoria, this expansive 8,750-hectare reserve features diverse landscapes, abundant wildlife, and a variety of camping experiences for nature enthusiasts.

Camping Options

Winton Wetlands provides several designated camping areas, each offering a distinct experience:

  • Green's Hill Camp: Situated near the Greens Hill Walk, this site offers unpowered bush camping with access to Envirodome toilet facilities (no showers), picnic shelters, and a communal fire pit. It's suitable for tents and campervans/trailers, with direct access to walking tracks.
  • Duck Pond Camp: This open bushland area provides basic camping under a tree canopy, suitable for tents and campervans/trailers with care. There are picnic tables available, but no toilets or fire pits, so campers need to be self-contained.
  • Bill Friday Swamp: Located in the bushland of Bill Friday Swamp, this site offers 10 campsites, each accommodating up to 6 people. Facilities include a picnic shelter and Envirodome toilet facilities (no showers). It's a haven for kangaroo spotting and is 3km from the Lunette Walk.

All campsites require booking and payment via the Winton Wetlands website.

Activities and Attractions

Visitors can explore over 100 km of roads, walks, and cycling trails, including the Mokoan Ponds Walk, Greens Hill Walk, and Swan Wall Walk. The wetlands are home to over 180 species of birds, making it a prime location for birdwatching.

The Mokoan Hub & Café serves as the visitor center, offering information, refreshments, and amenities.

Important Information

  • No Pets: To protect the wildlife and wetlands, dogs are not allowed at any Winton Wetlands campsites.
  • Water and Heat: Campers must bring their own drinking water. From October to May, temperatures can become extremely hot; it's important to wear sunscreen and protective clothing.
