Limestone Creek

Victorian High Country

Limestone Creek Camping Area is a remote and picturesque bush camping site nestled within Victoria's Alpine National Park, near the Cobberas region. Accessible only by high-clearance 4WD vehicles, this campsite offers a serene escape for self-sufficient campers seeking solitude and natural beauty.

Campsite Features

  • Facilities: The campsite provides basic amenities, including a pit toilet, picnic tables, and fireplaces. There is no potable water available, so campers must bring their own supply. The area is spacious, allowing for easy tent setup and vehicle parking.
  • Natural Surroundings: Set in a large clearing beside Limestone Creek, the campsite is enveloped by native bushland. Visitors often enjoy the company of local wildlife, such as kangaroos basking in the sun.

Access Information

  • Vehicle Requirements: Access to the campsite is via Limestone Creek Track, which is suitable only for high-clearance 4WD vehicles. The terrain is steep and challenging, making it unsuitable for standard vehicles or towing camper trailers.
  • Road Conditions: Due to the rugged nature of the track, it's advisable to check current road conditions and any closures before planning your trip.

Activities & Nearby Attractions

  • Hiking: The area serves as a base for exploring various hiking trails, including routes leading to the Australian Alps Walking Track. These trails offer stunning views of the alpine landscape.
  • Wildlife Observation: The secluded nature of the campsite provides opportunities to observe native wildlife in their natural habitat.

Important Considerations

  • Self-Sufficiency: Campers must be fully self-sufficient, bringing all necessary supplies, including water, food, and camping equipment.
  • No Bookings: The campsite operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with no booking system in place.
  • Environmental Care: As the area is part of a national park, campers are expected to follow Leave No Trace principles to preserve the natural environment.
