Hammond Road Campground is a serene bush camping area nestled within the Great Otway National Park in Victoria, Australia. Located approximately 12 km inland from Aireys Inlet, this campground offers a rustic and tranquil setting ideal for nature enthusiasts seeking a back-to-basics experience.

Campsite Features

Campsites: The campground comprises around 12 dispersed sites suitable for tents, campervans, and caravans. Some sites are designated for tent-only camping, requiring vehicles to be parked nearby.
Facilities: Amenities include non-flush (drop) toilets, picnic tables, and communal fireplaces. Campers must bring their own drinking water and firewood, as these are not provided on-site.
Access: The campground is accessible via unsealed roads, suitable for 2WD vehicles in dry conditions. However, caution is advised during wet weather due to potential road conditions.
Booking & Fees: Camping is free and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. No bookings are required.
Pets: Pets are not permitted at this campground to protect the native wildlife.

Natural Surroundings & Activities

Set amidst dry forest and woodland, Hammond Road Campground is frequented by native wildlife, including Eastern Grey Kangaroos and various bird species. The area offers opportunities for bushwalking and wildlife observation, providing a peaceful retreat for campers.

Important Considerations

Fire Regulations: Campfires are permitted only in designated fireplaces. Campers must bring their own firewood, as collection within the park is prohibited. Fires are not allowed on days of Total Fire Ban.
Leave No Trace: There are no rubbish bins on-site; campers are expected to take all waste with them upon departure.
Safety: Visitors should be prepared for changing weather conditions and ensure they have adequate supplies, including water and food. It's advisable to check for any park alerts or closures before arrival.
