From Buchanan Bend to Kyffins Reserve via Lake Boga
Day 17 - Buchanan Bend to Kyffins Reserve

Buchanan Bend, near Boundary Bend in Victoria, offers a peaceful and scenic camping experience along the mighty Murray River. This free riverside camp is set in natural bushland with river red gums providing plenty of shade and a real sense of being immersed in the Australian outback.
Access is via unsealed roads, so it's best suited for 4WDs or off-road campers, especially after rain. The sites are unmarked, allowing flexibility in where you set up camp—whether close to the water’s edge or tucked further back under the trees. Being right on the Murray, it’s an ideal spot for kayaking, fishing, swimming, or simply watching the river flow by.
The area is pet-friendly, has no facilities (so bring everything you need), and campfires are permitted when restrictions allow. Sunsets over the river can be spectacular, and the birdlife is abundant, with pelicans, cockatoos, and river ducks commonly seen.
Buchanan Bend is a great spot for travellers looking for a quiet, self-contained camping experience off the beaten track, with the relaxing soundtrack of the river to lull you to sleep at night.
