Alpana Station

Flinders Ranges

Alpana Station is a historic, family-owned Merino sheep property located just 5 km south of Blinman and 50 km north of Wilpena Pound in the heart of South Australia's Flinders Ranges. Owned by the Henery family since 1878, the station opened to visitors in 1994, offering a blend of authentic outback experiences and diverse accommodation options.

Accommodation Options

Alpana Station caters to a range of travelers with various lodging choices:

  • Shearers' Quarters: A self-contained facility featuring seven twin bedrooms (beds can be combined into king-sized), two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a spacious lounge/dining area with an open fireplace. Guests booking this option have exclusive use of the entire building.
  • Nungawurtina Hut: A secluded bush retreat accessible only by high-clearance 4WD or AWD vehicles. The hut offers basic amenities powered by 12V, including lights and a shower, but lacks refrigeration and 240V power. It's ideal for those seeking a remote and rustic experience.
  • Powered Sites with Ensuite: Four plush en-suite caravan/camping sites provide added comfort for campers, each equipped with a private bathroom.
  • Bush Camping: Two bush camping areas are available:
  • The Horseyards Campground: Situated off Parachilna Gorge Road, it offers four separate sites, each accommodating up to five vehicles/tents/trailers, complete with pit toilets and fire pits.

Alpana Station offers a variety of activities to enhance your stay:

  • 4WD Tours: Accredited full and half-day tours, including self-drive, tag-along, and tailored options, explore the scenic property and central Flinders Ranges.
