Gympie Area

Glastonbury Creek Camping Area is a serene and spacious campground nestled on the south-eastern edge of Brooyar State Forest, approximately 20 minutes northwest of Gympie, Queensland. Set beside the tranquil Glastonbury Creek, the campground offers an open grassy expanse at the base of a gentle hill, surrounded by patches of riverine rainforest and towering eucalypt forests .

Campsite Features

  • Capacity: Accommodates up to 120 campers; sites are unnumbered, allowing for flexible setup .
  • Suitable For: Tent camping beside your car, caravans, camper trailers, motorhomes, and large groups .
  • Surface: Grassy terrain providing a comfortable camping experience .

Facilities & Amenities

  • Toilets: Composting (non-flush) toilets are available on-site .
  • Water: Non-potable water taps are provided; campers must bring their own drinking water .
  • Campfires: Permitted in designated fire rings, except during fire bans. Campers must bring their own clean-milled firewood, as collecting wood from the forest is prohibited .
  • Generators: Not permitted, ensuring a peaceful environment .
  • Pets: Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash and under control at all times .

Access & Directions

  • Vehicle Access: Accessible by conventional vehicles, trailers, caravans, and mini-buses. However, road conditions can vary, especially in wet weather, so it's advisable to check local conditions before setting out .
  • Directions from Gympie: Head north on the Bruce Highway for approximately 10 km, turn left onto the Wide Bay Highway, continue for 7.8 km, then turn left onto Petersen Road and follow the signs to the camping area .

  • Nature Walks: Explore the surrounding forest on foot, enjoying the diverse flora and fauna .
  • Birdwatching & Wildlife: The area is rich in birdlife and native animals, offering excellent opportunities for observation .

Booking & Fees

  • Booking: Advance booking is required. Reservations can be made online through the Queensland National Parks Booking Service
  • Fees: As of June 2025, camping fees are $6.75 per person per night or $27.00 per family group per night. Children under 5 years of age are free .

Important Notes

  • High Tension Powerlines: Powerlines cross approximately 40 meters above the camping area .
  • Mobile Coverage: Generally available, depending on your mobile provider .
  • Environmental Care: Campers are encouraged to use fuel stoves for cooking and to bring rubbish bags, as bins are not provided .
