Yarrie Lake is a tranquil, saucer-shaped lake located approximately 30 km west of Narrabri in northwestern New South Wales. Believed to have been formed by a meteor strike thousands of years ago, this three-kilometre-wide lake offers a peaceful retreat for nature lovers and campers alike.
Nature & Wildlife
Yarrie Lake is a haven for birdwatchers, with over 70 bird species recorded in the area. Its sheltered position makes it an excellent natural breeding ground for various bird species.
Camping & Facilities
The lake offers both powered and unpowered camping sites suitable for tents, caravans, and motorhomes. Facilities include toilets, hot showers, laundry, picnic shelters, and designated fire pits. Campers are required to check in with the on-site caretaker upon arrival.
Important Notes
Pets: Dogs and cats are not permitted at Yarrie Lake.
Noise Restrictions: Generators must be turned off, and noise kept to a minimum between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM.
Boat Permits: A permit is required for launching boats on the lake
Yarrie Lake is a great place to stay when visiting the Australian Telescope Compact Array.
