Lake Keepit

Tamworth

Lake Keepit is a picturesque reservoir located in the New England region of northern New South Wales, approximately 56 kilometers west of Tamworth and 39 kilometers northeast of Gunnedah. Formed by the Keepit Dam on the Namoi River, the lake spans a surface area of 4,370 hectares and has a storage capacity of 425,510 megalitres, making it nearly as large as Sydney Harbour .

Recreation & Activities

Lake Keepit is a popular destination for a variety of recreational activities:

  • Water Sports: The lake is ideal for swimming, sailing, water-skiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, and kayaking.
  • Fishing: Anglers can fish for species such as Murray cod, golden perch (yellowbelly), silver perch, catfish, carp, yabbies, and shrimp .
  • Family Fun: The Lake Keepit Water Park features an enclosed splash zone with tipping buckets, water cannons, sprays, fountains, and aqua hoops, as well as playgrounds, barbecue facilities, and picnic areas .
  • Land Activities: Visitors can enjoy bushwalking, mountain biking, and exploring the natural beauty of the surrounding area .

Accommodation & Facilities

The Reflections Holiday Park – Lake Keepit offers a range of accommodation options, including cabins, glamping tents, and powered and unpowered campsites. Facilities at the park include a well-equipped camp kitchen, barbecue areas, a central firepit, clean amenities blocks, and a kiosk .

Adjacent to the holiday park is the Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation Centre, which provides catered accommodation for up to 181 guests. The centre features floodlit tennis courts, a rectangular sports field, basketball and netball courts, a 25-meter swimming pool, and a floodlit archery range .

There is unpowered camping around the lake.

  • Access: Lake Keepit is accessible via the Oxley Highway, situated between the towns of Gunnedah and Tamworth.
