Basket Swamp National Park is a serene and ecologically significant reserve located approximately 14–15 kilometers northeast of Tenterfield, New South Wales. Encompassing around 2,820 hectares, the park is named after its central feature, Basket Swamp—a 200-hectare wetland that plays a crucial role in filtering and releasing clean water into the Clarence River system throughout the year .
Natural Features & Ecology
The park boasts a diverse landscape of heathlands, sedge swamps, granite outcrops, and eucalypt woodlands. This variety of habitats supports an array of wildlife, including the endangered brush-tailed rock-wallaby and the vulnerable spotted-tailed quoll . Bird enthusiasts will also find the area rich in avian life.

Access & Facilities
Access to the park is via Mount Lindesay Road, with the final stretches being unsealed. While a 4WD is recommended, vehicles with good clearance can navigate the roads in dry conditions . The park is designed for self-reliant visitors, as there are no formal facilities within its boundaries. However, nearby Boonoo State Forest offers picnic and camping areas with basic amenities .
Cultural Significance
The Woollool Woolloolni Aboriginal Place within the park holds deep cultural importance for the local Indigenous communities. Visitors are encouraged to respect and acknowledge the cultural heritage of this sacred site .
