We spent a relaxing day at Davons Flat Campground, tucked away in the beautiful Howqua Hills Historic Area. The peaceful setting by the Howqua River was the perfect backdrop to slow down and soak in the natural surroundings.
During the day, we took the time to explore a few local highlights. First up was a visit to Fry’s Hut, a historic and beautifully preserved timber hut built in the 1940s by bushman Fred Fry. Wandering through the site gave us a glimpse into a simpler, rugged way of life — a real connection to the High Country’s pioneering past.
Later, we ventured out to Tunnel Bend, where the Howqua River curves dramatically through the landscape. It’s an impressive spot, shaped by both nature and early mining efforts, and offers a great place to stretch the legs, take some photos, and just admire the rugged beauty of the area.
After a full day of gentle exploring, we returned to camp, feeling recharged and grateful for the quiet simplicity that places like Davons Flat still offer.
