Today, we set out to follow the winding path of the Murray River eastward, enjoying the picturesque landscape that accompanies the river’s journey. Our first stop was Swan Hill, a charming town known for its rich agricultural history and river life. We grabbed lunch at Boos Place Café and Providore, a lovely café known for its hearty meals and welcoming atmosphere. The café was the perfect spot to relax, enjoy some local flavors, and fuel up for the day’s adventures. The rustic charm and friendly service made it a memorable stop, and we took some time to browse the local produce and goods they had on offer.
After lunch, we continued on, heading toward Lake Boga, a serene and expansive lake just outside of Swan Hill. Here, we visited the Catalina Museum, an incredible little museum dedicated to the history of the Catalina Flying Boats that were used during World War II. It was fascinating to learn about the significant role these aircraft played in Australia’s defense efforts, especially in the South Pacific. The museum is housed in a former military hangar, and we got to see various displays of memorabilia, photographs, and even a fully restored Catalina flying boat. It was a great opportunity to step back in time and reflect on an important part of Australian history.
Next, we continued on to Katamatite, a small but vibrant town known for its unique silos adorned with impressive street art. The Katamatite Silos have become a bit of an art destination, with towering murals painted on the grain silos depicting local scenes and wildlife. We took some time to admire the stunning artwork, which adds an unexpected splash of color to the otherwise rural landscape. The creativity and detail of the murals were truly inspiring, and it was a great reminder of how art can bring life to even the most unexpected places.
