When we bought the van, we requested a Merit socket to be fitted on each side of the bed. There was already a USB-A socket in the bedside lamps which is not suitable for 12v appliances.
The Merit socket was fitted just below the bedside lamp, which would have been to make the additional wiring simpler.
The issue is that we need the bedside storage lid open while using the Merit socket. To rectify this we fitted a Merit socket inside the storage box, so that power can stay on while the lid is closed. Power is turned off when the van master switch is turned off.
I first installed a Merit socket from Jaycar, which did not have a reliable connection. When the plug moved, power was interrupted.
I replaced it with a Narva socket (same as the ones already fitted), and this solved the problem. The Narva sockets are over twice the price, but worth it to have a reliable connection.
